Tia Blanco Surf Lifestyle 2019, Laguna Beach, California.
If you could look up #goals in the dictionary, I’d imagine that Tia Blanco’s name would pop up immediately. Tia is a superstar – professional surfer, yogi, and cofounder of Dear Self skincare. At only 21 years young, she is one of the top 50 female surfers in the world and one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met.
She is well-known among fans for her vegan-ism and her immense love for animals and the environment. She even runs a side-hustle cooking page where she shares vegan, organic recipes with the world (check it out, @tiasvegankitchen).
First and foremost, she’s an extremely determined athlete who currently sits at #35 on the World Surf League Qualifying Series of all female surfers on the planet! Needless to say, our team is always beyond stoked to shoot a model who is actually a real life athlete.
We met up with Tia in Laguna Beach, on a magically sunny day right in the middle of a rainy week. We chose a spot with some history. On Victoria Beach, at low tide, you can climb around the rocks to find what is known to locals as the “pirate tower”. Old folk’s tales say the owner of the tower, back in the 1940’s, would dress as a pirate and hide coins in the cracks of the old tower for children to find. Our creative team met in the parking lot, picked out some outfits, and loaded up the gear for the walk down to the secluded coastal location. Photographer Blue Wesley (@bluewesley) was really excited to work with such a vibrant and hardworking person. Blue specializes in creating ultra high end commercial lifestyle imagery with athletes and models alike, his roster of muses includes icons like Mike Trout of the LA Angels, and Surf legend Rob Machado. Blue used a variety of lenses including 85, 35, and 16 wide on Canon and Sony bodies. To compliment the abundant light tis morning, our team used a 6x6 Westcott Cine Scrim for light control on Tia.
Throughout the photoshoot, Tia modeled active-wear and bikinis from Mona Swimwear and Nanga Sports - two types of clothing this yogi, surfer babe lives in. And, of course, her surf board. We also created a series of images with her brand sponsored product for @swatch and @raen.
We thought Mona swim’s new line of entirely sustainable and eco-friendly active swimwear, made from recycled materials such as fish nets and plastic bottles, would be the perfect fit for our girl. Nothing like working out, looking super cute, and saving the environment all at the same time.

All in all, it was an epic day, and an incredible experience to see a world class Athelete and creative team capture this set of stunning images.
We’ll also be sharing all new 2019 shoots on this blog, so stay tuned ; )
